TV Report Highlights MCC's Partnerships with Businesses

13WHAM News followed up on President Obama’s State of the Union address by highlighting MCC’s partnerships with the Rochester-region business community. Reporter Evan White focused on the college’s relationships with science and technology companies, particularly the impact Optimax Systems Inc. has made by hiring MCC graduates.

The reporter interviewed Mike Mandina, president of Optimax; President Kress; and MCC student David Miller, who was shown working on precision machining equipment with program coordinator Bob Lasch at the Applied Technologies Center. David was a manufacturing manager before he lost his job in May. He said he decided to pursue a certificate in optics fabrication at MCC because of the tremendous job opportunities available in the optics field and the connections MCC has with the industry.

President Kress said she expects our alternative energy programs to expand as well as new partnerships in the bioscience and health fields.

Many thanks to Bob Lasch for his assistance with the interview. The report aired Wednesday, Jan. 25, during its 5 p.m. news broadcast.
