Passing of Professor Emeritus George Campbell McDade

I am sad to inform the college community of the passing of Professor Emeritus George Campbell McDade on Nov. 9, 2016.

Professor McDade began his MCC career as an assistant professor of English in 1964. Four years later he was promoted to associate professor and in 1970, he taught his first art course here. The transition from English to art was a natural one for Professor McDade, who became Art Department Chair in 1972. He was promoted to professor in 1974.

Professor McDade was a dedicated faculty member contributing to the college with enthusiasm and distinction in many areas. In addition to serving on a number of college-wide committees, he was advisor of the student literary arts magazine, Cabbages & Kings, in its earliest days. He also represented MCC in the SUNY Two-Year College Senate and was an educational programs consultant for local businesses and organizations.

According to his former colleagues, what distinguished Professor McDade's service was the knowledgeable concern and good humor he brought to his efforts. He was both an effective teacher, open and encouraging to his students, and a stimulating colleague, always willing to discuss and explore more effective teaching approaches and techniques.

Professor McDade earned a M.A. from Bowling Green State University, Ohio and a B.S. from SUNY Oswego. He retired in 1996.
