Optics Club Participates at Brighton's Festival of Ideas

The MCC Optics Club participated in the Brighton Festival of Ideas on Saturday March 5th with their program, “Photonics Sleuths.”  The annual event is an educational "fun day" for Brighton Central School District students in grades 3 through 8. Through hands on activities, students learned about Optics, lasers, colors, wavelengths, and properties of light.  Students played exciting games like Laser Mini Golf and an optical puzzle using crystals, heat, and lighting to decode letters. 

The MCC Optics Club was represented at this event by students Kay Wilkoff, Jen Owens, and Alex Hoyt.  The Optics Club plans and organizes community outreach events to share the exciting field of Optics.

MCC’s Optical Systems Technology program prepares students for optics and photonics careers through hands-on, remote, online, and hybrid course options that can lead to a stackable one-year Certificate, two-year AAS Degree, and pathways to bachelor’s degrees at select universities. The program is currently recruiting students of all ages who enjoy working with their hands, making things, solving problems, and improving people’s lives.
