Passing of Bob Zajkowski

It is with a deep sense of loss that I inform you of the passing of Robert C. Zajkowski, professor emeritus, on Thursday, Sept. 7.  Bob, a founding member of MCC's faculty, helped grow and shape the College's music program in its earliest years. Known for his good humored leadership, he served as music department chair for many years and directed both the student jazz ensemble and the swing choir.

Bob's ties to local theater groups enhanced our student productions. He helped establish the Academic Achievement Convocation as an MCC tradition. As co-chair of commencement for several years, he made a tremendous contribution to the enjoyment and success of this annual event. Bob made a tremendous difference in the lives of our students. Through his dedicated efforts, MCC students were provided with countless enriching and enjoyable opportunities.

Bob was also active outside the Collelge. He performed major operatic roles with Opera Under the Stars and the Opera Theatre of Rochester. He was a professional bassist and a member of Kazoophony, a musical satire troupe. He was also a board member of the Pittsford Vince Lombardi Football League.

Bob retired in 1998 after devoting 34 years to MCC.

Predeceased by his brother, William J. Zajkowski, Bob is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carol Ladrach Zajkowski; sons, Christopher (Heather) and Peter (Jodi); grandchildren, Emma, Aidan and Eden; nieces, Kristin, Julia, Heather and Lauren; and sister-in-law, Beverly Zajkowski.

Contributions (to help establish a memorial music scholarship) may be made to the Monroe Community College Foundation in memory of Robert Zajkowski, 1000 E. Henrietta Rd., Rochester, NY 14623.

Condolences can be sent to his wife, Carol Zajkowski at 144 S. Main St. Pittsford, NY 14534.
