Wednesday's Message

Tuesday was National Teachers Day, providing all of us with an opportunity to thank a teacher for the role she or he played in shaping our future. In that spirit, I thank Mrs. Mengel, my second teacher, who recognized and nurtured my love of reading. She opened worlds of adventure, joy, and--sometimes--refuge. I think back to my second grade classroom reading corner where I sat on a little chair, elbows on my knees, head deep in a thick novel. I'd plow my way through Ivanhoe, dreaming of being the exotic and tragic Rebecca, or imagine myself as the proud, rebellious Jo in Little Women. Thank you, Mrs. Mengel, for showing me the wide, wide world could come to St. Francis, Wisconsin, and I could see myself in it.

Who would you thank? Please your own story
here.
