Aspiring Dental Hygienist Receives Inaugural Scholarship Award

KayLee Allen, a 2021 MCC graduate, is recipient of the new Dilek Ogut Memorial Scholarship, whose namesake was a beloved dental hygienist for 18 years at Cornerstone Dental until her death in a car crash in 2019.

Dilek Ogut was killed after a drunken driver crashed into her car in Parma. She was an MCC alumna, having graduated with an associate degree in dental hygiene in 2000.

On Friday, May 28, Allen was interviewed by WHAM-TV alongside Cornerstone Dental partners who established the scholarship fund in Ogut's memory.

“This money will help immensely when paying for my upcoming board exam and licensure fees to become a registered dental hygienist,” said Allen, who earned her associate degree in dental hygiene from MCC on May 20.

The scholarship fund supports Monroe County students who are enrolled in MCC’s dental hygiene program, have demonstrated leadership in the dental profession, and are actively involved in their community. Students must also maintain full-time status at MCC and a minimum 3.0 grade point average.

WHAM-TV's article and MCC's news release are available online.
