Renaissance Square, A New Downtown Campus for MCC

Unless you have been avoiding newspapers, radios, televisions, the Internet and your friends and neighbors, you likely are aware of the precarious status of the Renaissance Square project. I do not know whether the project is really over. That question will be answered in time. There is, however, one question that can be answered today.

Monroe Community College's commitment to downtown, to city residents and to city workers is unwavering. If we cannot build on Main Street as part of Renaissance Square, the college will work with internal and external stakeholders to identify another downtown location. Without question, MCC needs to be in the heart of our city in order to open the door to higher education for the complete diversity of our community and to be a catalyst for the revitalization of Rochester.

While we have not selected a site -- it is premature to do so -- we are discussing what our process might be for identifying other possible locations. That process will include revisiting site requirements defined in the past and listening to input from today’s stakeholders, including internal constituencies.

Stay tuned.
