Holly Wheeler Interviewed on Environmental Impact of Bottled Water

Holly Wheeler, assistant professor, English/Philosophy, and acting director, Curriculum and Program Development, was interviewed by WROC/FOX Reporter Katrina Irwin for its “Go Green” series. Wheeler serves on the Great Lakes Sub-Committee of the Rochester Regional Sierra Club which is educating the public regarding issues of water privatization and bottled water.

According to the report, in 2006 Americans consumed more than 8 million gallons of bottled water which negatively impacted the environment. Wheeler commented how "environmentally it's problematic because we use 1.5 million barrels of oil a year to produce bottled water.  Plus then we transport it which is more gas. The bottled water industry produces 1.5 million tons of plastic a year most of which is not recycled."
