College Update on COVID-19 Testing Efforts & Cases

Monroe County announced 605 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, Dec. 13, 2020. Monroe County's seven-day rolling average positivity rate is 8.66%. Most of Monroe County is still considered within orange warning and yellow precautionary zones. We anticipate Gov. Cuomo will update residents on cluster zones based on new metrics today.

To date, MCC has completed 4,288 pooled tests.

The last two COVID-19 pooled testing sessions of the fall semester will be held 9 a.m.-1:00 p.m. today and tomorrow, Dec. 14 and Dec. 15 in the Warshof Conference Center, Flynn Campus Center (Monroe A/B). No appointment necessary. Testing is mandatory for students who live or come to campus; faculty and staff who are assigned to work on campus are strongly encouraged to participate to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Weekly pooled testing sessions will resume on Monday, Jan. 4, 2021. Confirmed testing session dates will be shared via the MCC Daily Tribune and posted to the MCC Updates & Resources web pages soon.

We owe debt of gratitude to MCC Health Services and Public Safety staff for their leadership in organizing the sessions this fall and to students and colleagues (staff, volunteers and participants) across the college who support weekly testing efforts.

Since our last report on December 7, the Monroe County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) has notified the College of 5 positive case of COVID-19 among students and employees. Of those cases, 0 individuals were on campus. According to MCC Health Services:

  • 0 students are isolating on campus
  • 20 students are isolating off campus
  • 9 students are in mandatory quarantine (on and off campus)

MCC adheres to federal, state and county guidelines and requires mask wearing, social distancing, hand washing, respiratory etiquette and daily health self-assessments on campus. Please visit the MCC Updates & Resources for the latest updates.
