Dr. Gantt Discusses College's Diversity Efforts on WXXI Program
On Jan. 14, MCC Chief Diversity Officer Dr. Calvin Gantt was among the participants in WXXI's Connections with Evan Dawson talk radio program discussing the roles and responsibilities of chief diversity officers at colleges and universities. Dr. Gantt was joined by his counterparts from The College at Brockport, Nazareth College, and Rochester Institute of Technology.
More higher education institutions now have chief diversity officers than ever before, Inside Higher Ed reported in a November 2019 article.
Dr. Gantt and the other panelists talked about what their positions entail as well as efforts and initiatives at their institution -- and across the SUNY system -- in creating a more diverse and inclusive campus. Dr. Gantt said MCC is reviewing its existing practices in recruiting and hiring faculty and staff and that he would like to see a 20% increase in faculty and staff of color at MCC within the next five, 10 years.
