MCC Race Card Project

Think about the word “race.” How would you distill your thoughts, experiences, or observations about race into one sentence that has only six words?

That’s right. Your thoughts. One sentence. Six words.

Michele Norris of National Public Radio started a national conversation about race with the Race Card Project. You can see the original (and still growing) Race Card Wall at https://theracecardproject.com/category/race-card/. Recent Race Cards include these six-word sentences:

·          “Forget blindness; remember that color contributes.”

·          “Expansive roots, exquisite tongues, diversity perpetuated.”

·         “My son’s not half, he’s double.”

Now you can participate in the MCC Race Card Project. You will find forms around MCC for submitting your six words about race. These will be posted on the MCC Race Card Wall for display on all MCC campuses and copies of them sent to Michele Norris. On the form, you can also volunteer to read your six words for the MCC Race Card video. Send completed forms to Craig Rand, Health and Physical Education Dept., 10-106, before Wednesday, November 27.

Thank you for helping build the MCC Race Card Project!

This is part of a monthly series of articles from the Diversity Council about topics related to diversity and multiculturalism.
