**Cybersecurity Advisory ** Phishing email Warning

Monroe Community College has received reports from other SUNY institutions that some very realistic spear phishing campaigns have been created to target Higher Education institutions.

These malicious emails claim to be from the college president or other high-level leaders and may contain a signature that contains correct contact details and realistic college branding.

In some cases, the message may refer to a newly updated ethics program on campus or some other call to action, and will ultimately direct users to a malicious URL link that leads to a web form intended to gather user account credentials and other personally identifiable information. These web forms often display the college letterhead and look just like official college documents.

As a reminder, Monroe Community College will NEVER send you an email directing you click a link and enter your MCC Network Account credentials (your username/password), and we urge you to treat ANY such requests as hacking attempts. Any such unsolicited messages should be immediately deleted.

If you do mistakenly provide your MCC Network Account credentials and suspect that your account may have been compromised, please contact the Technology Help Desk at (585) 292-8324 immediately to have your password changed and to be provided assistance in any other necessary remediation.

Attached is an example of a phishing email received at Hudson Valley Community College.
