OER Updates and Opportunities

  • The New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE) seeks to form a Community of Practice composed of eight regionally represented faculty members interested in the pedagogical benefits and development of Open Education Resources (OER).  Each participant will revise or develop a learning resource utilizing open licensing structures which will be integrated into their Fall 2021 course.  The learning objectives include developing a set of inclusive teaching practices that centers students as authoritative voices and leveraging Open Pedagogy to center social justice in your learning outcomes.  More details as well as the link to apply (by Friday, January 15th) can be found here.
  • The University of Rochester Libraries are presenting "Open Pedagogy Approaches: Faculty, Library, and Student Collaborations", a series of webinars promoting ways for faculty, library staff, and students to engage and enrich the learning process. Upcoming topics include OER in the Sciences and Humanities. Today there is a workshop from 1:00-2:00pm, "Renewable Assignment Design", which features two faculty from Lehman College, as well as a U of R Biology professor and librarian. Registration for today can be found here, and click here for a link to details and registration for the other five remaining workshops.
  • Congratulations to the faculty here at MCC who will be teaching almost 40 courses using OER this spring! Besides no- or low-cost for students, OER provides instant and perpetual access while also giving faculty the freedom to customize their course materials.
  • Keep an eye out for upcoming OER information sessions at MCC and funding opportunities in the coming months.  As always, contact OER Librarian, Michelle Beechey (mbeechey@monroecc.edu) if you're curious about OER, or with questions about all things open.
