<p><br />Join career consultants Alice and John Wojcio from Binghamton University for a three-hour workshop to better understand the role of emotional intelligence competencies in successfully managing professional relationships; develop a better understanding of how others might view us, and the impact those perceptions have on our workplace successes and challenges; as well as determine viable options for enhancing career success, based on personal values and expectations.</p>

<p><br />This session will cover the concept of "attention management," which is the antidote to everything in our environment that sabotages our attention. We live in a fast-paced, "always-on" society, and that has negative consequences for our ability and efforts to be productive. Attention management is the key to controlling distractions, maximizing focus, and becoming engaged in "flow." It helps you to be present in the moment, whether that be at work or at leisure. It helps you to maximize your brain power and your unique skills to bring your best self to the moment.</p>

<p><br />IV. CRUCIAL CONVERSATIONS: TRANFORMNG MEETINGS INTO IMPACTFUL INTERACTIONS</p>
<p><br />Most employees attend numerous meetings throughout the course of a semester, and often-times are required to chair a meeting. This workshop will provide tips and tactics to help participants learn to facilitate more effective meetings. This guide will include ideas to increase engagement at the meetings, ensure productivity, and bolster morale.</p>

<p><br />V. FIVE PRINCIPLES TO GOVERN YOUR PROFESSIONAL LIFE</p>
<p><br />Adapting the philosophical principles of Michael Murdcock, this presentation will explore five of the principles and discuss their connection to your professional life. The interactive session will offer participants an opportunity to explore their own career paths and determine future steps.</p>

<p><br />VI. EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION: THE BENEFITS OF STORY-TELLING</p>
<p><br />The average person remembers approximately 7% of information provided to them in an oral form. When that information is delivered in the form of a story, the percentage remembered increases significantly. This workshop will provide suggestions for format and delivery of stories, and offer participants an opportunity to practice story telling.</p>

<p><br />VII. RETURN ON LIFE: ENJOYING A BETTER QUALITY OF LIFE NOW AND INTO RETIREMENT</p>
<p><br />Gary Whitten from Buffalo will join us for a presentation on how to prioritize what is important to you. We live in a fast-paced society, and many of us often spend limited time on the activities and with the people who bring us the most joy. Gary will utilize a software package that allows the participants to identify their priorities and develop plans to ensure that these items are allotted the appropriate amount of time to enhance the quality of our lives. The package focuses on the present, but also provides information and guidance for the future, including one's retirement years.</p>

The Student Services Fall Professional Development Series commenced this week with an exceptional workshop, and now more programs have been added. Each of the workshops are open to all MCC employees.
