Career Technical Education Dean


Please join me in welcoming MCC’s new Dean of Career Technical Education, Dr. Javier Ayala.  He begins his MCC career today, February 7, 2012. 

Javier has more than 10 years of experience in higher education.  In addition to his most recent dual role as dean of curriculum and instruction and vice president of instruction at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, he has held positions in teaching, institutional research, assessment and grant development at several two- and four-year institutions.  He has also served as consultant on accreditation and assessment as it pertains to community colleges and four-year institutions. 

During his career, Dr. Ayala has secured and managed more than $4 million in state and federal funds to strengthen existing programs and create programs related to career pathways, career readiness, and student success.

A native of El Salvador, Dr. Ayala has lived in California and Oregon.  He and his wife, Mitzi, have two sons, Diego, 5 and Cruz, 3.

Javier’s office is located in Building 8, Room 610.
