Route 15A road work; expect delays

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) Friday announced utility relocation work is resuming this week, or as soon as weather conditions permit, on the project to replace the Route 15A (East Henrietta Road) bridge over the Erie Canal in Brighton. This is the road and bridge in front of MCC’s Brighton Campus.

Utility crews are scheduled to begin working on Monday, February 22 on the east side of the Route 15A (East Henrietta Road) bridge. The right lane on Route 15A northbound, as well as the right lane of the exit ramp from I-390 northbound to Route 15A (Exit 16), will be closed from 9 a.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning.  This closure will occur daily for approximately four weeks.  Motorists will still be permitted to turn left, go straight, or turn right around this work zone.

This work is part of the ongoing $30.7 million project to reconstruct the interchange of Interstate 390 and Route 15A (East Henrietta Road), which started last summer. This is the fourth and final contract in a series of projects to improve access between Interstate 390 and the adjacent roads, including Kendrick Road, East River Road and West Henrietta Road (Route 15), dubbed Access 390 Interchange 16.

Project highlights include:

* Construction of a new off ramp from I-390 north to Route 15A northbound;

* Construction of a new loop ramp from I-390 north to Route 15A southbound;

* Construction of a new off-ramp from I-390 north to Route 15;

* Construction of a new on-ramp from Route 15A to I-390 northbound;

* Improvements to the existing ramp from Route 15A to I-390 southbound;

* Replacement of the Route 15A bridge over the Erie Canal; and

* Minor rehabilitation of the Route 15A bridge over I-390.

Construction is expected to be complete in fall 2017.
