Swimming teams place third at nationals



MCC breaks a handful of school, regional records.

SAN ANTONIO - The MCC men's and women's swimming and diving teams had excellent showings at the NJCAA national championships at Pal Alto College in San Antonio, Texas, picking up third-place finishes to cap another outstanding season.

The men's team finished with 408.5 points, while the women had 427.  Indian River Community College finished first on both sides and Lincoln College was second.  It was IRCC's 32nd straight men's title and 24th straight women's championship.

The Tribunes were paced by a number of school and regional records.  MCC also had nine individuals who qualified as College Swimming Coaches Association of America All-Americans.  Participants who finished in the top four were named All-Americans.

While Monroe had no individual winners, the school did boast a number of second-place finishes. Those included:

Women’s 400 medley relay (Cathleen Swartz, Melissa Ashby, Caitlin Robison, Jaclyn Cowles) 4:18.32.
Men’s three-meter diving – Joshua Brewer, (351.50 points)
Women’s 200 freestyle relay (Jaclyn Cowles, Melissa Ashby, Kathryn Hores, Cathleen Swartz), 1:45.25
Men’s 200 IM – Kazuma Uda, (1:54.16) (school and regional record)
