Addressing the Challenges Latina and African American Women Experience in School

Please join Empowering Women this Friday for a presentation and dialogue (and lunch!) about the challenges that Latina and African American women experience in school. Our keynote speaker, Dr. Judy Marquez Kiyama from the University of Rochester, will share her research and help begin the dialogue. Dr. Marquez Kiyama’s research examines the resources that promote and the barriers that prohibit students from progressing through school. Her work focuses on students, families, and communities.

This presentation will be held Friday, April 19th, 2013 from 12:30-2:30pm in the Damon City Campus Community Room (4193). Reservations are required.

What challenges do you see or have you yourself experienced? What can be done to address the challenges? Come share your thoughts over lunch! Space is limited to 30 participants. Please RSVP to Trelawney Seldon at
tseldon@monroecc.edu or 262-1662, or Corinne Rapp at crapp@monroecc.edu or 262-1588 to reserve your seat.

This event is sponsored by Empowering Women, Honorable Women Club and SEGA.
