ACE @ MCC and Criminal Justice Collaboration

The Criminal Justice Department's Loss Prevention Lab provides an environment that supports student learning through crime re-enactment, roleplaying, crime scene processing and private security training. During the Fall 2019 semester, a new collaboration between ACE @ MCC and the Criminal Justice Department offered an internship for students in the ACE @ MCC program. Six students learned retail-based work skills in the lab including documenting product inventory, looking up pricing information, tagging different kinds of items, labeling shelves, stocking products, operating a cash register, counting money, and customer service. This exciting opportunity would not have been possible without the support of the MCC Foundation's Impact Micro Grant which assisted in the purchase of several new items for the lab including a cash register, a large cash register stand/shelving unit, pricing and tagging guns with pricing labels, shelving labels and shirt folding boards. The opportunity was also made possible with the great support and contributions of Bob Kennedy, Department Chair, Law/Criminal Justice and Valerie Olivieri, Department Secretary, Law/Criminal Justice. The experience was so successful that we will continue to offer the internship opportunity to students during the Spring 2020 semester.
