MCC volleyball player Sarah Zelko and men's soccer player Jonny Day were named the MCC Athletes of the Week.
Zelko, a sophomore setter, helped the Monroe Community College volleyball team go 3-1 last week. Zelko had 19 assists, six digs, five kills, four aces, and one block as the Tribunes swept Corning CC on Tuesday. She then totaled 58 assists, 25 digs, 13 kills, four aces, and two blocks as Monroe went 2-1 at the Jefferson CC Tournament on Saturday.
Day, a sophomore midfielder, had the game-winning goal as the Tribunes defeated the College of Southern Maryland 3-2 in overtime Saturday. Day's winner came just 33 seconds into the extra session, as he intercepted a clear by the Maryland goalie and blasted it into the net to win it for Monroe.
