Political Activist Joan Mandle to Speak on "Money in Politics"

The U.S. Supreme Court is currently deciding a case regarding corporate contributions that could reverse a 100-year ban and could destabilize campaigning. Come hear Dr. Joan Mandle discuss the critical, determining role that money plays in real-life politics. A former associate sociology professor at Colgate University, Mandle now serves as the executive director of Democracy Matters, a national organization that informs and engages college students and communities in efforts to strengthen democracy.

Mandle will speak on “Money in Politics” in the R. Thomas Flynn Campus Center Forum (room 3-130) on Monday, September 21 at 7 p.m.

Mandle has received widespread recognition for her political work. Most recently, she was awarded the League of Women Voters of Oakland’s “Civic Contribution Award” for her campaign finance reform work in the Bay Area, and the Sociologists for Women in Society’s “Feminist Activism Award” for a lifetime of service and activism.

“Money in Politics” is free and open to the public. Parking is available in Lot M.

This event is being jointly sponsored by MCC’s Faculty Association and the Anthropology/History/Political Science/Sociology Department.
