Community Fridays for a Cause

The next “Community Fridays for a Cause” is tomorrow, Friday, November 5.

This Friday, dress casually and make a donation to the American Diabetes Association, November’s recipient of donations raised through the “Community Fridays for a Cause” program.

In Rochester, the American Diabetes Association funds research at the University of Rochester, conducts educational programs, offers summer camps for children with diabetes, conducts an annual diabetes forum, and much more.

Every 21 seconds someone is diagnosed with diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is not preventable and is typically diagnosed from childhood up to age 30. Type 2 diabetes is preventable, but is affecting young people and adults at astonishing rates. If present trends continue, 1 in 3 children born in 2000 will develop diabetes in their lifetime. 23.6 million children and adults have diabetes, 10% have Type 1 diabetes and 90% have Type 2 diabetes.

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is committed to the prevention and cure of diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. The ADA is the nation’s leading nonprofit health organization providing diabetes research, education, and advocacy for all types of diabetes.

Please show your support for the American Diabetes Association and MCC’s commitment to the community with your generous donation.

Donations will be collected in each department. All checks should be made out to the American Diabetes Association.  Donation envelopes have been returned to the departments for reuse on November 5.  Please bring the donation envelopes to Jodee Biller in the Controller’s Office by 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

Thank you in advance for your support!
