Alumni, Professor Selected for MCC Sports Hall of Fame

Monroe Community College will induct Don Bell (Webster), Erin (Muir) Etsler (North Chili), Matthew Baxter (Newport News, VA), and David Mitchell (Frewsburg) into the MCC Sports Hall of Fame during its 23rd banquet on Monday, April 21 at the college’s Brighton Campus.

Bell, a former professor in MCC’s Physical Education and Recreation program, started men’s lacrosse at the college with a club team in 1970. A member of the US Lacrosse Greater Rochester Chapter Hall of Fame, Bell is a longtime contributor to the Webster youth lacrosse program.

Etsler (Class of 2002) was an All-American soccer player and helped the MCC women’s soccer team to a 39-2-2 record and two national championship appearances.  The Spencerport High graduate was the Region III Player of the Year in 2000 and later attended the University of Massachusetts on a full scholarship.

Baxter (Class of 2002) helped lead the MCC men’s swimming and diving team to a Region III championship in 1998. The former Tribune captain and Rochester native was an All-American and later was the head coach of the MCC Mavericks Swim Club.

Mitchell (Class of 1976), a strong supporter of MCC Athletics, was a regional champion wrestler. He was an All-State selection in 1975 and was a regional representative at the national tournament.  Mitchell later served as a New York State police officer.
