President's Wednesday Message

Thanksgiving offers the opportunity to do more than eat too much turkey and pumpkin pie.  As the name of this holiday suggests, it gives us all the chance to reflect upon the many gifts we receive each day and to share our thanks.

At MCC, we are dedicated to a common goal: assuring that the full diversity of our community has access to high quality, innovative and inspiring higher education.  Thank you for sharing your talents to make this goal a reality for our students every day.

But, we must also recognize that many in our community face significant economic barriers to achieving their dreams at MCC.  Even after full-time and part-time jobs, and state and federal financial aid, too many students still lack the resources they need to attend college.

So, this season, I want to thank the thousands (including many of you!) who have given so generously over the past four years to the MCC Foundation’s Every Bright Future Deserves a Strong Foundation outreach.  It was based around a simple yet powerful message: the most important and transforming investment donors could make in MCC would be an investment in our remarkable students.  The results of this focused effort have been extraordinary.

This past year, due to the incredible generosity of our community and the outstanding work of our Foundation, MCC was able to award a record 731 scholarships totaling $1,064,289.  Since the launch of Every Bright Future in 2010, we have increased the scholarship dollars awarded to students by 67%.  As I said, extraordinary!

I am truly grateful to all who have invested in our students and placed their trust in MCC.  These are remarkable, humbling, and life changing gifts—the very best of any season.  Thank you!

Do you know any students who have been helped by scholarships?  Share your stories here on the blog.

Happy Thanksgiving!
