"The Best of Parent Talk" Debuts This Week

The Rochester Parent Network (RPN) announced that “The Best of Parent Talk,” its daily television show for parents and caregivers of children, will debut Monday, July 5, at 10:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Time Warner Cable Channel 4. The program is produced in conjunction with Irondequoit Community Access Television.

Associate Professor of Communication and RPN President Jim Coffey said, “I am delighted to announce this enhancement to our services. Our purpose for this change is to improve our system of support for parents and caregivers. With the feedback from our viewers, we have been able to respond with a new, convenient, broadcast schedule.”

Launched in March 2002, “Parent Talk” is a live, 30-minute, call-in television program that focuses on effective parenting and early childhood topics and issues. Each show features a guest speaker/expert; past guests include former Surgeon General David Satcher, M.D., and Ruth Lawrence, M.D., widely renowned authority on breast-feeding, as well as many other medical and child development specialists in the greater Rochester area. With over 100 already covered on “Parent Talk” programs, the decision was made to organize the topics to better align with the following developmental levels from Monday through Friday:

* Mondays: Pre-natal, 10:00 – 10:30 a.m.; Newborns, 10:30- 11:00 a.m.
* Tuesdays: 3-6 months, 10:00 – 10:30 a.m; 6-12 months, 10:30- 11:00 a.m.
* Wednesdays: 12-18 months, 10:00 – 10:30 a.m; 18-24 months, 10:30- 11:00 a.m.
* Thursdays: 24- 36 months, 10:00 – 10:30 a.m; 36+ months, 10:30- 11:00 a.m.
* Fridays: Community Resources, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.

The Rochester Parent Network is a community collaboration administered by Monroe Community College. Through the support of over 20 partners, affiliates and funders throughout Monroe County, “Parent Talk,” 292-BABY and a host of other educational programs are conducted each year. 292-BABY is a free help line that provides parents and caregivers answers to questions about health care, child care, developmental issues and general family needs via a live nurse, agency connection and features 300 audio tapes on parenting issues.
