Tribunes Garner Region III Soccer Titles


Monroe Community College hosted the men's and women's NJCAA Region III soccer tournament this past weekend. The men played the defending national champions from last year, Bryant and Stratton. This was the third time this season that the two teams have played each other. In their first match up, the Tribunes lost 2-1; the second time they tied and this time MCC won 1-0 to earn the Region III title.

The men will be heading to Franklin, Mass. to play in the district championship on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 1:00 pm against Dean. The winner of districts will head to Tyler, Texas to compete in the national tournament Nov. 21-24. MCC is currently 12-3-2. Coach Cupello was named Region III Coach of the Year while Adam Barton was named Offensive Player of the Tournament. Bill Sobolewski earned Defensive Player of the Tournament honors.

The Lady Tribunes also played in the Region III finals on Nov. 3. MCC played SUNY Cobleskill and defeated them 4-1. Jessica Rochevot was named Offensive Player of the Tournament while Cobleskill's keeper was named Defensive Player of the Tournament. The Lady Tribunes are currently 16-2 and will be heading to St. Louis on Nov. 20 to compete at the NJCAA National Tournament.
