Brighton Classroom Update

It’s been an exciting time on the Brighton campus this summer. Just to bring everyone up to speed, the following projects have been accomplished:

·       Six of the smaller classrooms in building 6 have been updated with smart boards. Partnering with Instructional Technologies, CNS and Facilities, the classrooms have been equipped with this technology to alleviate the necessity of the portable AV carts in the rooms that many faculty have requested in the past.

·       Building 19 has been built. This stand alone complex featured the partnering of Facilities, ETS and Public Safety to create 7 new instructional spaces. The rooms are bright; they feature the latest in AV technology for our students and faculty and 32 linear feet of board space for those of us who still like to write!

·       Once again partnering with Facilities and ETS, seven classrooms will be open the first week of school. These high tech instructional spaces consist of two OCP labs, 3 designated Math classrooms and two general classrooms. These rooms have the latest in energy savings components, all have sound insulation in the walls between classrooms and when you stop over, and you’ll notice we’ve even moved the hallway on the second floor. This was done to bring natural light in to our classrooms.

None of the above projects could have been accomplished without the combined energies of Facilities, ETS and Public Safety. The Faculty Senate Classroom committee was also actively involved in our classroom designs and furniture.

Anyone who would like training on the components of our updated AV systems are asked to call ext. 2828. Now it’s my annual “chair” appeal. If you find you need extra student desks, and they will safely fit in the room, please send me an email at HYPERLINK "mailto:rcunningham@monroecc.edu"rcunningham@monroecc.edu and I’ll have Facilities place them for you. Please don’t borrow them from the room next door; we’ll never fix the problem if we are chasing chairs around the hallways.

In conclusion, Academic Services owes a debt of gratitude to all of our partners at the college. Without all of the various groups in Facilities, ETS and Public Safety, we wouldn’t have been able to pull this off for our students.  Let’s have a great academic year!
