Annual NY State Fire Inspection

The annual New York State Fire Inspection will be conducted from January 28, 2013 through February 8, 2013. This will include the Brighton Campus, Damon City Campus and Applied Technologies Center as well as the Guon Child Care Center, Alice Holloway Young Residence Halls and the Rush Range.

Please check your work areas to assure that they are in compliance with our safety standards. A common violation is the use of extension cords and multi-plug adapters. These are prohibited and should be replaced with a single power-strip, (no daisy-chaining of power strips). Also, if using a space heater, it must be at least 3 feet away from combustibles, plugged directly into a wall outlet, (not a power-strip), have a UL listing with a sticker on the back of the heater and must have a tip-over safety switch which will shut it off if the unit is knocked over.

All efforts will be made to keep any disruption to a minimum while the inspections are in progress. Review your work spaces and contact David Blackburn in the Safety/Hazard Prevention office at Ext. 3153 or by e-mail at <
mailto:dblackburn3@monroecc.edu> with any questions you might have regarding the inspection. Please check the attached memo sent recently to all Department Heads and Chairpersons for a more detailed list of common violations.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation during this inspection period.
