MCC Salutes Wegman Family, ESL Charitable Foundation announces $4 million grant

The MCC Foundation's 30th Annual Salute to Excellence dinner was an evening filled with shining examples of leadership, philanthropy and MCC success stories. Thank you to the alumni, students, faculty, staff and administrators who were among the nearly 400 business and community leaders who celebrated with us last evening at the Floreano Convention Center.

Following four MCC Alumni Hall of Fame inductions, Wegman Family Charitable Foundation President and Chairman Danny Wegman accepted the 2019 Salute to Excellence award. The award recognizes the Wegman family's philanthropic commitment to the Every Bright Future Needs a Strong Foundation campaign (announced in March 2019) that is helping MCC alleviate student hunger and basic needs insecurities so that more students graduate on time.

The Salute to Excellence dinner culminated in the announcement of ESL Charitable Foundation's $4 million grant to the Every Bright Future campaign. Provided over a five-year period, the grant will help launch three innovative scholarship programs for income-eligible MCC students. Within the announcement, ESL Federal Credit Union President & Chief Executive Officer Faheem Masood described the grant's potential impact on students and the community.

Through this grant, hundreds of students who are underprepared for college-level academics will have the chance to remediate without beginning the financial aid clock and potentially running out of financial aid prior to completion, adults who stopped out of high school will earn a high school diploma while also earning a college credential, and former students who were close to college graduation but stopped out will have the chance to complete their degrees. Look for more information on MCC's new Pathway to College, Strong Foundations and Finish Strong programs in future Daily Tribune articles.

On behalf of the MCC Foundation Board of Directors and Chair Sergio Esteban, thank you for your support of the MCC Foundation and the important role you play in creating bright futures for our students and community.
