A Dam Fine Example

Hoover Dam, built from 1933 - 1935, is 726 feet high, and if spread out, has enough concrete to pave a two-lane highway from San Francisco to New York.  Regarded as one of the Engineering Wonders of the World, the building of this dam required the invention of new construction techniques, and employed 21,000, in a period when the country was emerging from the Great Recession.  Some of the results of building this dam are:

- Generation of reliable electricity for this section of the country.
- A fresh water supply for large sections of Arizona, California, and Nevada.
- Creation of a recreational opportunity for citizens of this region.
- Forever altering the environment of the major watershed in the southwestern United States.
