Starfish College-Wide Fall 2016

During the 2015/2016 academic year, Starfish was piloted with a number of special populations on campus, and through the automated and Success Coaches’ interventions, it has positively impacted student success.

In the first semester of the Starfish pilot, we saw a significant improvement in the success of Transitional Studies program students, with 5% more students receiving a C or better than in the previous Fall semester.

We also saw a marked increase in the number of online students who persisted to the census date, and an overall higher percentage of students who completed online courses.

Due to this success, we are enthusiastic about expanding the use of Starfish for all students across all six Schools.  An Implementation Team is being formed and charged with ensuring that the roll out engenders the greatest impact possible on student success.  Throughout the next academic year, the plan is to purposefully phase in elements of Starfish to align with the Schools model.  As faculty members, you will be able to use Starfish to raise concerns about students and to know that those concerns are being communicated to the student and addressed by a dedicated member of the Starfish coaching team.

For more information and to get involved in conversations about how Starfish can benefit you and your students, attend the Starfish Professional Development presentation in 11-111 from 12-1pm on June 9th  and watch for Starfish training opportunities this Fall.  A Starfish demonstration will also be presented to adjunct faculty at the Adjunct Orientation event August 31st.
