Visitors Welcome at MCC's Archaeological "Dig" Open House

Ever want to visit an archaeological "dig" but couldn't make it to the pyramids?  The Open House Day at MCC's Bittner Farm Site will be Monday, July 25th from 10 am - noon. The site is located on MCC's Brighton Campus.

This year we are continuing to uncover the old farm kitchen and woodshed, including the "kitchen midden" (dump) just outside the back door. We are learning a great deal about disposal of trash before the advent of municiple garbage pickup. We also hope to survey the location of the vanished barns, woodshed, piggery and ice-house. Students will be happy to explain their "finds" and the process of archaeology, as well as what they're learning about rural farm life.

So, drop what you're doing and take a short safari to visit the site. It's just past the ESL Sports Center on the northeast corner of the college's perimeter road. Park in Lot M and take the 15-minute hike to the site. You may also park on the trail leading out to the site, but be careful NOT to park on the roadway and risk a ticket. For more information contact Dr. Ann Morton, anthropology adjunct, at (315) 986-3086 or amorton@rochester.rr.com.
