CSTEP Students Re-start NSBE Club

Five students in the college’s Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) have resurrected the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) chapter at Monroe Community College.    With the support of CSTEP Director Joann Santos, a group of engineering majors were able to travel to the NSBE National Conference in Nashville, TN during the spring 2014 semester and that trip led to the reformation of the MCC Chapter this past fall.   In October, students representing the Engineering, Mathematics, and Construction Tech programs at MCC attended the NSBE Upstate Region Conference at Cornell University.   The group will decide on a meeting time for the spring 2015 semester and will promote their meetings with campus posters.  Any MCC students who want to learn more about NSBE are invited to attend.

The National Society of Black Engineers’ mission is "to increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community."  NSBE is one of the largest student-governed organizations based in the United States with 394 active chapters — 242 collegiate, 70 professional and 82 pre-collegiate — located in six geographic regions.

The Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) at MCC provides academic enrichment and research experience in order to increase the number of students from underrepresented groups who are pursuing professional licensure and careers in STEM and health-related fields.
