Video: Female Mathematicians in World War II

Come see a video that mixes American history with a bit of math and computer science. On Wednesday, April 27 from 12 noon – 12:50 pm, “Top Secret Rosies” will be shown in room 8-100. This video explores the role of female mathematicians in winning World War II and beginning the computer age.

The video title is a reference to “Rosie the Riveter,” the women who built tanks and planes in American factories while the men were off fighting. Similarly, “Rosie the Mathematician” calculated ballistic tables and programmed the first electronic computer ENIAC. This video, in the PBS/Ken Burns style, explores the role of these pioneering women.
