Veterans Early Alert Program

Faculty assistance is an integral part of retaining our veteran and military students, helping them achieve academic success and remain eligible for their educational benefits. Data from the Veterans Early Alert Program indicates a very positive impact on insuring these students meet their completion goals.

At the beginning of the spring 2015 semester the average GPA of the Veteran student cohort was comparable to the general student population.  However, according to Institutional Research, the Veterans ended the semester with a statistically higher average GPA (2.78 compared to 2.68)!

On September 28 an email will be sent to all faculty who have a veteran enrolled in their class directing them to a brief online survey regarding student progress to date.  The information received will be used to connect our veteran students with additional support including Go VETS- Veterans Educational Tutorial Services in math, writing and physics provided by Academic Support Services within the Veteran Services Office.

In the past survey comments were reviewed by VSO staff, but not included in the email sent to the student. This semester faculty can use the comment section to provide encouragement or kudos to those students doing well or additional suggestions on how veteran/military students can improve their academic performance.

The Counseling Center and Veteran Services department appreciates your support and thanks you in advance for your willingness to participate in this initiative.
