Monroe County, MCC Unveil LEED Gold Certification at PAC Center

During a press conference yesterday, Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks and MCC President Anne M. Kress unveiled the county and college’s first municipal Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification plaque at MCC’s PAC Center. The U.S. Green Building Council awarded the certification in recognition of the PAC Center’s sustainable design and construction.

Congratulations to Valarie Avalone (Planning) and Blaine Grindle (Facilities) who were recognized by President Kress and received certificates of appreciation at the press conference. Certificates were also given to primary project partners such as Clough Harbor & Associates, The DiMarco Group, M/E Engineering and Christa Construction. President Kress also recognized the project as a "public-partnership" that would not have been possible if not for the generosity of the Chesonis Family Foundation and over 1,100 donors who contributed to the PAC Center campaign, led by the MCC Foundation.

“Innovation and collaboration continue to drive our sustainability efforts," said Brooks. “Projects like the PAC show how Monroe County is setting the standard for environmentally-friendly construction projects.”

The PAC Center received the Gold Certification for its many sustainable design features, including optimal energy performance, use of green electricity through renewable sources, and use of recycled building materials. The 56,000 square foot facility also received praise for its innovation in wastewater handling and innovative design.

The PAC Center at MCC also received the “Project of the Year” award from the American Public Works Association.
