Dr. Bartkovich Interviewed About "Summer Melt" Prevention

This past weekend, WXXI News radio interviewed Dr. Jeff Bartkovich, interim provost and vice president of Academic Services, on what MCC is doing to combat “summer melt,” the precarious time when students accepted at college lose their way over the course of the summer and do not enroll, running the risk of abandoning their higher education plans entirely.

Summer melt is a national challenge. At MCC, intervention strategies include Program Advisement and Registration (PAR) sessions, Express Enrollment Days, phone-call reminders to schedule Accuplacer testing, and transitional studies courses to give incoming students a leg up in the fall.

The news report was scheduled to broadcast Monday, July 14.
