Malicious Virus Infecting Classroom and Office Computers

A malicious “AutoRun Virus” (a spyware program) is attacking classroom computers via the use of an USB drive. When an USB drive is inserted into the computer, AutoRun (a legitimate Window’s feature) installs a virus on the computer without the user knowing it. Once a computer is infected, it will infect additional USB drives used on that computer. The virus can then spread to office computers when a student shares an USB drive containing class assignments with a faculty member.

To help stop the spread of the virus in the classrooms, we have disabled the AutoRun feature for USB drives only.  We will run daily “fix its” on classroom computers to ensure a fresh image for the students.

An infected office computer will need to be re-imaged in order to eliminate the virus so it is important to have your data saved on the M:Drive in order to prevent the loss of your files.

If you suspect you have the virus you can call the ETS Call Center at x 4357, Option 1.
