Michael Johnson’s Leadership Moves AHEAD

Michael Johnson, Counselor, DCC Student Services, will represent MCC on the 2007 Conference Committee for the Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD). The theme for the conference will be “Of Pride, Prejudice and Passion,” a theme which Michael’s experience with diversity and disability services will serve well.

Michael will also play an important role this year at the 2006 AHEAD Conference in July, in San Diego.  He will be facilitating a session titled:  “All Aboard: Smooth Transition of Disabled Students to Community Colleges,” a symposium designed for disability support service providers and faculty and staff who want to hear more about four model programs that enhance transition and staff development at community colleges around the country.

He will also co-present the session: “African American and Native American Students with Disabilities: Uncovering the Myths and Realities,” a two-part symposium to aid participants in developing a more holistic and accurate perspective of how students with disabilities from two different cultures face multiple challenges in the transition to post-secondary education.
