Raise Your Voice Against Censorship Poetry Reading

Raise Your Voice Against Censorship Poetry Reading will be held in the
Brick Lounge from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12.

According to the New York Times and other sources, the White House has indefinitely postponed a "Poetry of the American Voice" symposium scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 12. The abrupt postponement of this discussion surrounding the work of Emily Dickinson, Langston Hughes and Walt Whitman stems from a White House fear that the event might become "politicized" in these moments before war. In response to this indefinite postponement, poetry readings across the United States are being co-sponsored by the United Poets Coalition and Poets for Peace.

At Monroe Community College, the Student Center and the Raise Your Voice Initiative, the Creative Arts Committee, and the Poetry Month Committee will host a poetry reading in the Brick Lounge. We encourage students and faculty to attend, and we invite students and faculty to read original pieces or the work of others.
