Six Faculty Participating in Global Guests Program

The Global Education & International Services office and the Teaching and Creativity Center are pleased to announce that six MCC faculty members are participating this semester in a pilot program called Global Guests. Global Guests is an off-shoot of SUNY COIL and something called Teaching Squares--and it happens to coordinate nicely with our own Virtual Open Classrooms as well! In fact, five of the six faculty participating in Global Guests are opening their own classes to MCC faculty and staff next week.

The faculty enrolled in Global Guests are

  • Ryan Clemens (Chemistry and Geosciences)
  • Jim Downer (Visual and Performing Arts)
  • Elizabeth D Johnston (English and Philosophy)
  • Karen Morris (Business and Economics)
  • Marisol Galarza-Ruiz (World Languages and Cultures)
  • Sherry Tshibangu (Business and Economics)

These six join 57 other educators from Australia, Brazil, Chile, the Dominican Republic, Japan, Mexico, Philippines, and the United States. Global Guests participants are in groups of 3-4, and over the next couple of months groupmates will visit each others' classes via Zoom.

The goal of the program, as stated in the welcome letter participants received, is "To give [participants] the opportunity to see and to savor teaching and learning across the globe, to share [their] practices, and to learn from international colleagues. It is designed to be a celebration of teaching and lifelong learning."

Please join Christina Lee and me in offering a figurative and virtual bon voyage as Ryan, Elizabeth, Jim, Karen, Marisol, and Sherry venture to other classrooms far and wide.
