Email Security Best Practices Infographic

Even after taking the annual cyber security awareness training, faculty and staff have asked for more detail about how to evaluate whether an email is safe or not. The attached infographic provides helpful guidance.

Be especially careful if links have addresses in which the last word before the final .com, .org, etc. is not as expected. For example, the email appears to be from Amazon, but the link goes to amazon.order.com. This is taking you to order.com, not amazon.com. Another example is chase.cardmember.com, which takes you to cardmember.com, not chase.com.

There is no need to call the Technology Support help desk or to forward phishing emails to the "spamsubmission" email account as long as you have not clicked on a link or attachment. Just delete it.

If you have clicked on a real phishing email and it infects your PC, then call the Technology Support team at 292-TECH, option 3.
