Mathematics Department Adjunct Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award Winner: Debbi Adiletta

The Mathematics department is proud to announce that Debbie Adiletta has been selected as the recipient of this year’s Adjunct Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award. Debbie has been an adjunct faculty member in our department 19 years, during which she has taught a wide range of courses including Algebra of Statistics, Elementary Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, Modern Business Mathematics, Introduction to Technical Mathematics, Survey of Math, and Statistics I.

What sets Debbie apart is her commitment to excellence in teaching. She is always looking for ways to improve her pedagogy and stay up-to-date with the latest teaching practices. Over the years, she has taken advantage of several professional development opportunities, include obtaining STARS certification, how to work with deaf and hard of hearing students, and how to work with nontraditional students.

Debbie’s dedication to teaching is reflected in the feedback she receives from her students. Many of them report that they enjoyed being in her class and that they understood math for the first time. In fact, her students often ask which courses she will be teaching next so that they can register for her classes in the future.

Debbie also participated in a High Impact Practices Summer Institute for Faculty, where she focused on collaborative learning. She used this knowledge to redesign the activities in her Statistics I course to include more group activities during class lectures, and administer group quizzes.

Please join the Mathematics department in congratulating Debbie on this well-deserved recognition of her outstanding contributions to our students.
