Please let students and other members of the MCC community know that if they are still uninsured there’s good news! The deadline to sign-up for “Qualified Health Plans” (plans the consumer pays for or gets a tax credit for) has been extended to 4/15/14. In addition, Medicaid can be applied for year round! Under the newly expanded guidelines, 74 % of the MCC students who met with an insurance application counselor in February and March qualified for an HMO Medicaid plan.
There are several ways to find out what you qualify for.
1. Call the NYS helpline at 1-855-355-5777.
2. Go online to: newyorkstateofhealth.ny.gov.
3. Meet with a certified application counselor from United Health Care on campus or near home. The counselor can explain the options and assist with sign up. Consumers are free to choose any of the plans offered- they are not limited to United Health Care, and there is no charge.
Students can get help signing up at the Brighton Campus, Applied Technologies Center, or Damon City Campus.
