MCC Email Account

Your work email is just that--your work email. When you send or receive email "@monroecc.edu" you are representing Monroe Community College. Your work email address is essentially the property of MCC; and the College needs to retain and release information--including emails--as specified by laws such as Sarbanes-Oxley and the Freedom of Information Act. Also, when you leave the College, you will have to completely surrender your email account.

Work and personal email accounts serve different purposes and should be used for those purposes. Using a personal email account keeps you in control of your personal business. Using your work email only for work helps insure confidentiality and security of those emails. It also helps to balance work and life when you keep personal and work emails separate.

Unfortunately, not too long ago, some people had their MCC email (username@monroecc.edu) and their bank account compromised since they did not have their bank account under a separate personal email account. Using an MCC email address as a username to a personal account and/or using the same password as your MCC password is a security risk.

Any personal accounts such as banking, email, cloud, retail, photo-sharing and other personal social media accounts should be setup using a personal email account and should have a unique password. For example, when you set up online access to your bank account, use a personal email address, do not give the bank your MCC email address. The only accounts that should be linked or attached to your MCC email address are ones needed for your work at MCC.

Options for Personal Email Accounts

There are several companies that provide free email accounts if you don't already have one through your Internet provider (e.g. Spectrum). Each option may have different limitations on size of accounts available for free, and may offer premium options at a cost. These accounts also have the advantage of being able to be accessed through multiple devices (phones, tablets, web browsers). Please note we are not recommending any particular option and Technology Services does not provide support for personal email accounts.
