ACHIEVE Funding Provided by State

The New York State Department of Labor recently granted $122,674 to support
Monroe Community College's ACHIEVE program through August 2003. The funds were
awarded based on the critical support ACHIEVE programs provide to prepare young
people for long-term success in the workforce.

The ACHIEVE program falls under the umbrella of the College's Skills, Training,
Academics, Growth and Employment (STAGE) program. The STAGE program provides
support services for GED preparation, pre-employment training, career and
occupational exploration skills, computer skills, internships and job placement
opportunities, life skills, social activities, college preparation, academic
advising, mentoring and counseling to out of school youth, ages 16-21.
Currently 62 students participate in the program at MCC.

"We are now entering our 22nd year of service," said Samson Olaode, director,
STAGE. "Our mission remains to provide direction for youth towards leading
productive, self-sustaining lives away from welfare dependency and poverty. The
ACHIEVE grant will help us to continue to grow and serve more youth throughout
Rochester and Monroe County."

In addition to the New York State Department of Labor, MCC's STAGE program is
funded by the Rochester Resource Alliance (Workforce Investment Act), the
Rochester City School District and the Monroe Community College Foundation.
