Microsoft Lync Instant Messaging Service Upgrade Scheduled for Thursday

On Thursday, June 4, at 1:00 p.m., CNS will be performing an upgrade of our Microsoft Lync instant messaging and desktop sharing environment.  During  this time, the service will be intermittently unavailable.  Following the upgrade, users will be able to reconnect to the service as normal with no necessary configuration changes.

This upgrade marks the beginning of a process to transition from Lync to Skype for Business, as Microsoft has re-branded this service offering following their acquisition of Skype.  Users may notice the branding on their instant messaging client change from Lync to Skype for Business; however, the changes are primarily cosmetic in nature.

Over the summer, CNS will be working to extend the functionality of our Skype for Business environment to implement enhanced remote connectivity options including federated instant messaging to Office 365 (the college’s student email platform) and other remote messaging and conferencing offerings.

Please contact the Technology Help Desk at xTECH (8324) if you encounter any issues following the upgrade.
