Service-Learning Distinction

More than a half dozen students will earn the service-learning distinction and receive a seal on their diploma as they graduate today, June 5. The distinction, which was developed at MCC only a couple years ago, honors students who have worked in the community over 200 hours while meeting academic requirements for the service-learning courses.

Among the students are Kristine Brownell and Amy Ratajczak, who both served 225 hours, Jayna Cooper at 215 hours, and Topacio Burgos and Akpo Olokor at 200 hours. Shown here are Jayna and Akpo. Jayna spent most of her hours working through the teacher education program. Akpo conducted his service-learning work through the criminal justice program, working in the district attorney’s office, which included preparing subpoenas and victim letters.

Congratulations to all of the service-learning students with distinction. Faculty interested in establishing service-learning through their courses and students wanting to register for them should call 262.1713.
