Math Appreciation Month - Week 2: Time For Fun Facts and a Brain Teaser!

Math Appreciation Month – Week 2: Time For Fun Facts and a Brain Teaser!

For this week of our Month of Mathematics, let’s discover some interesting math-related facts that may surprise you!

  1. Did you realize that in a classroom of 23 people, there’s a 50% chance two of them have the same birthday? In a room of 75 people, the probability increases to 99%. This is referred to as the Birthday Problem.
  2. Talking about distance and rate, did you know that squirrels can run at about 20 miles per hour and jump up to 20 feet?
  3. So it turns out that people tend to have about 100,000 hairs on their head, and you can lose around 50 to 100 hairs every day. No wonder the drains get so clogged!
  4. If you are a LEGO lover, don’t fret. The LEGO factory produces around 36,000 pieces of LEGO every minute, so you’ll never run out of your favorite structural building block.
  5. If you love walking around the beautiful Cobbs Hill Reservoir, next time you check out that water with a friend you can tell them that it holds 144,000,000 gallons of water! You still can’t swim in it though.
