Banner Student and Financial Aid Modules Prepare to "Go Live"

During the December break, over 45 people assisted the MCC Banner Student and Financial Aid implementation teams in their preparations for Banner “Go live.” The team members successfully converted close to 500,000 records from SIS to Banner, reviewed a sample of academic history records from a test of over 3.6 million records in preparation for the academic history conversion, and finalized preparations for the Banner Financial Aid module implementation.

All of this very hard work soon will pay off. At the end of January, Banner Financial Aid goes live and staff will begin preparations for packaging student Financial Aid in Banner for the Summer 2006 semester. On February 15th MCC’s Summer 2006 registration begins and students will use the Banner registration module for the first time. After that, the next major MCC Banner milestone will be the Fall 2006 student registration which will begin on March 20, 2006

Other Banner activities that took place over the December break included confirming the scheduling for end user training for Banner Student, and developing the Banner Student interactive training materials that will be made available on the web and on CD. Look for additional information on Banner end user training in the Tribune and on the Banner Web site very soon.

The Banner Student effort was led by Student Assistant team leader, Denise Klein, and by Marlene Fine, CAPP team leader (CAPP stands for Curriculum, Advising and Program Planning—Banner’s version of On-Course).

Melissa Barbara, Financial Aid team leader, coordinated all of the Financial Aid activities. Bob Bertram, Deb Watson, Sandie Almekinder, Lauren Johnson, James Clement and David Lane provided computing, programming and network support.

Dr. Jeffrey Bartkovich, VP, ETS, indicates that “the progress and momentum sustained by the Banner teams is remarkable. Their work demonstrates once again why MCC is looked to as a leader and a model for other institutions in the SUNY system.  I am proud of MCC’s Banner efforts and look forward to a very successful implementation.”
